My Journey as a Rookie Realtor in Calgary
If you had told me a few years ago that I’d be starting over — building a brand new career in real estate — I might’ve smiled politely, but deep down, I probably wouldn’t have believed you.
And yet, here I am.
I’m Evelyn Sutherland, a proud rookie realtor based in Calgary, and I’m stepping into this industry not fresh out of school, but with a life full of lessons, resilience, and heart behind me. Real estate isn’t just a job for me — it’s a second act, a reinvention, and a bold leap into a dream I’d quietly carried for years.
Why Real Estate?
Over the years, I’ve worn many hats. I’ve navigated life’s highs and lows, learned the importance of home, and grown to deeply appreciate what it means to find a place that feels just right. I’ve always had a passion for people, learning about their stories and a drive to do meaningful work. Real estate brought all of that together in one unexpected, exciting package.
I knew it wouldn’t be easy. Starting something new later in life means facing doubts — both your own and others’. But it also means showing up with grit, perspective, and empathy. I’ve lived through moves, financial uncertainty, family changes, and rebuilding — so I don’t just sell homes, I get what’s at stake when people buy or sell one.
Learning as I Go
I won’t pretend to know everything (yet), but what I can promise is this: I show up fully. I ask questions, I keep learning, and I listen closely — to my clients, to the market, and to the mentors who’ve walked this path before me.
Calgary is an incredible place to live, grow, and start anew. I know because I’m doing just that. And whether you’re buying your first home, downsizing after decades, or somewhere in between — I’d be honoured to be part of your journey.
Let’s Climb Together
Every home tells a story, and every client teaches me something new. As I continue to grow in this business, I hope this blog becomes a place where I can share helpful insights, local love, and honest reflections on what it’s like to be a “rookie” — later in life, but not late to the game.
Thanks for being here. The best is still ahead.
